Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship"
Join Us for "Sow Seeds of Justice: Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship"
As Catholics called to political participation, we form our consciences through prayer, reflection and conversation about the many issues affecting human dignity and the common good as we prepare to vote. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops document “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship” is a resource encouraging conscience formation through reflection on Catholic Social Teaching. On September 13, Pope Francis reminded US Catholics of the importance of voting, after discerning the lesser evil from one's choice when each candidate fails to respect life in important ways ranging from abortion to migration.
To help us unpack these teachings, SJTW welcomes Angela Senander, PhD. Dr. Senander is a theologian specializing in Catholic social ethics, who served as chair of the department of systematic and moral theology at Washington Theological Union. She is an expert on Catholic engagement in public life and the author of Scandal: The Catholic Church and Public Life.
Come for an opportunity to engage in spiritual conversation about faith and public life on Monday, October 21st at 6:30 pm in St. Joe Hall. Light refreshments will be available.
Kindly register so refreshments can be planned https://sjtw.ccbchurch.com/goto/forms/346/responses/new
For those who would like to read in preparation for October 21, "Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship" and Pope Francis's response to the US reporter are recommended.
Catholic Social Teaching is one of the hidden gems of the Catholic faith! With roots in the Hebrew prophets’ pronouncements of God's special love for the poor and call to live justly, to its foundational teaching based on the life and words of Jesus, Catholic Social Teaching continues to provide today’s Catholics a framework to live in right-relationship with the world around us. In a world that seems to be more divided by the day – Catholic Social Teaching shows us how to apply practices of mercy, justice, and unity.
