If you’re in St. Joseph’s Hall on a Tuesday or Thursday morning, you may hear the hum of a paper shredder. Parishioners Ryan and Jim Cornwell have been a part of SJTW for over 30 years. They’ve never missed a Mass except for vacations, where they’ll attend service in the respective state. “30 years and he’s not missed a Sunday.” Jim says.
Ryan started working at SJTW in 2017 doing maintenance and recycling after moving into a group home. His mother, Renee, had the idea of shredding paper, so he was offered the position of Shredding Supervisor in 2021, and shreds 20 baskets a day. Through his work over the years, he’s developed great friendships with the staff of SJTW. “He [Fr. Mike] treats Ryan like a king.” Jim says.
Ryan’s enthusiasm for his work is contagious-he calls it “awesome”! Alongside his dad, they sport matching uniforms, Ryan has the role of Shredding Supervisor, with Jim serving as Assistant Shredder. When asked about what he thinks of his boss, Fr. Mike, Ryan says “He’s cool and a friend!” Ryan feels good helping the church and subsequently donating the shredded paper for animal bedding at the Humane Society.
In his free time, Ryan is very involved in Special Olympics playing floor hockey, bowling, and softball. He’s even been in state tournaments for bowling! He enjoys a monthly Special Needs Faith Sharing group and volunteering at Feed my Starving Children.
