"So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” – Romans 10:17
Rebecca Wong has been leading OneWith groups – SJTW’s 9-12 grade Faith Formation program – for 9 years, this past year being her third group of teens that she’s lead. “I was part of the team that created the idea of a teaching Mass as a way to teach our teens about the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist.” Outside of OneWith, she also leads small groups and presentations at retreats, helps out in the kitchen, and has worked in costume-making for the Living Stations of the Cross.
Rebecca sees sharing her faith as a calling from God. “[The teens] are amazing witnesses of Christ. They have insightful thoughts about the gospel messages and the homilies.” she says. She encounters Christ during these OneWith sessions, as they are brought to life from the teens sharing their faith and thoughts.
To Rebecca, she’s put her faith in God and the Holy Spirit to give her the confidence to talk about faith with teens. Sometimes she has to say, “I don’t know, who should we ask?”, encouraging them to reach out to others when they don’t know the answer.
Her journey as a OneWith leader has deepened her belief in God and has showed that we are all witnesses of God’s love. “Many people make assumptions about teens and what they are like, but if you sit with teens and be still and quiet and wait for them to process the messages they have just heard, they have amazing insight.” Your CPL contribution supports so many ministries, making SJTW a vibrant and faith filled community.
