“All it takes is one good person to restore hope.” – Pope Francis
Many Fridays, Kid Pack volunteer Amy Dienslake packs food bags alongside other SJTW parishioners for elementary school students in need. Kid Pack is a program created by Every Meal, whose mission is to fight hunger and provide hope for children in the Twin Cities.
As a former “lunch lady”, Amy saw students who had concerns about how they’d eat outside of school. Amy says, “I am honored to pray over and place sustaining food in backpacks. I pray also for the families the food bags are destined for.”
For Amy, this ministry fits her well and she loves engaging with staff at the school as well as the parish volunteers. Since Kid Pack is a confidential program, she’s not able to pack food in front of students but will try to divert inquisitive ones with questions. “Who doesn’t like to hear from an enthusiastic elementary student?”
“I am honored to be representing SJTW at Cedar Island Elementary. Supporting our students through this ministry is outreach I will continue as long as I am able.”
Kid Pack volunteers are needed for Fridays throughout the school year serving our neighborhood school, Cedar Island Elementary. If you’re interested in volunteering, contact Theresa in the parish office at theresa@sjtw.net
