“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace.”
1 Peter 4:10
Parishioner Joanne Freed volunteers at Mobile Hope, a mobile home community with locations in Corcoran, Blaine, and Dayton, MN. She helps children with homework assignments at the Hope Center, a community center built for the community.
Joanne shares, “My favorite part of this ministry is the relationships you establish with the kids that attend the Hope Center programs. I love to greet the second graders off the bus and ask them about their day and share a snack with them. It is rewarding to see the children grow in their skills but also impactful to build positive relationships with the children.”
Working at the Hope Center has strengthened Joanne’s faith as she gets to know the children and their families in the after-school programs. To her, the center is God’s work and she feels grateful for getting to be part of it. Joanne has even brought her family and her Confirmation and Faith Formation classes to the Hope Center, getting to know the Mobile Hope residents and bringing communities together.
Mobile Hope is in great need of volunteers, so much so that some sessions may have to be canceled. Joanne encourages others saying, “A smile and willingness to listen helps those in need but in return it is the positive relationships we help establish that helps God's light to shine for all those involved.”
