Grades 9-12 – OneWith

OneWith is SJTW's innovative liturgy and Scripture-centered curriculum. Using the Mass as our model, youth in grades 9-11 participate in and learn about Catholic worship from the inside out!  

One of the hallmarks of this "Teaching Mass" concept is the intentional reflection on litrugy and Scripture.  Discipleship Groups will engage in focused discussion and reflection on scripture and Catholic Tradition as they experiece it in Mass.

This concept was was not designed for teens alone.  Adults and families are invited to join us to break open the histories and mysteries of our faith in this unique format. The OneWith formation team has developed reflection materials specfically for groups of adults and for family groups to reflect on the gospel in a deeper more intentional way.

OneWith sessions run from 5:45 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. (approximately 2 Sunday evenings a month)!

Make-up options for missed OneWith Sessions:
The strength of our formation for high school aged youth is in the shared witness and reflection of the gospel and our lived Catholic experience that happens in their peer “Discipleship Groups”.  It is no coincidence that this is the same method that Jesus used to form his disciples.  This is why we place such a premium on our youth’s participation in their Discipleship Groups.
 
However, we acknowledge the reality of illness, family emergencies, etc.  Though less than ideal, for any youth that misses a OneWith Session, we offer the following alternatives to deepen their understanding of gospel and/or their Catholic faith:
 
There are 2 ways to make up a missed OneWith Session. 
 
Option #1: Attend and reflect on a Sunday Mass
Any teen that misses a OneWith session may choose to make up their missed session by attending (and reflecting on) a Catholic Sunday Mass at a church of their choice. 
 
Option #2: Attend and reflect on a “Catholic enrichment” program.
Any teen that misses a OneWith session may choose to make up their missed session by attending (and reflecting on) any of a wide variety of adult education or Catholic enrichment programs or events hosted by a Catholic church or Catholic organization (not limited to SJTW events or programs).   Pretty much anything that is not a social or service activity has the potential to qualify for this category.

Are you interested in becoming a volunteer in the Faith Formation Department?
The SJTW staff will provide you with training, resource materials (including lesson plans) and support.  All Faith Formation volunteers are required to complete and submit a background check and attend a VIRTUS (youth protection) session.  Visit virtus.org for information on how to register for VIRTUS sessions and file for a background check.
