“And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.’” – Mark 16:15
Sebastian Cerda is a proclaimer at SJTW, sharing the word of God during Mass. In addition, he also serves in Children’s Liturgy of the Word and occasionally helps out during hospitality. Through his work as a proclaimer, Sebastian is able to develop his intonation, public speaking skills, and confidence as a speaker.
The ministry has strengthened Sebastian’s relationship with his Catholic faith through connecting with the SJTW community. Many people have come up to him after Mass talking about how the reading affected them, he in turn building relationships with parishioners and further understanding the reading’s impact.
Looking to join the Proclaimer Ministry? They’re always open to new members! Sebastian says it best himself; “This ministry is always welcome to new members, especially when a lector cannot make it to their assigned Mass and requests a substitution.”
If you’re not used to public speaking, Sebastian recommends practicing beforehand until you feel comfortable with the reading and taking a deep breath before going up to the podium. Speak with confidence and purpose – “You are the bridge between the Word of God and the congregation.”
