“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,”
– Ephesians 2:10
Your Commitment to Parish Life (CPL) contribution is a vital force behind the vibrant and welcoming community at SJTW. Through your generosity, countless ministries thrive, offering all parishioners a chance to find their place in serving God and each other.
Siblings Nolan and Raya Wise are dedicated altar servers at Mass. From lighting and extinguishing the candles to setting the table for Communion, they have an important role when celebrating the Mass. Some of their favorite memories include serving on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Christmas Eve, and the Easter Masses.
Being altar servers has helped strengthen their relationship with God. Nolan likes serving, sharing that it not only allows him to participate more fully, but also makes him feel more connected to the community. “It has made me recognizable around the church and feel a little bit important,” he says. He also values receiving "the real body and blood of Jesus" in the Eucharist. For Raya, serving as an altar server has enhanced her attentiveness during Mass, “I pay more attention to Mass and what is going on,” she shares, adding, “I love the church we go to and helping out.”
For those considering becoming altar servers, Raya offers practical advice: “Start out with the candles and don’t drink a lot of water before Mass.” Nolan adds, “You at least have to lift 10 lbs for 50 seconds.”
