Hospital Ministry
When you or a member of your family is admitted to a hospital, please, let the hospital staff know that you are a member of St. Joseph the Worker in Maple Grove. All area hospitals have chaplains who are available. If you would like to be visited, please let the hospital staff know and someone from chaplaincy will bring you Eucharist. They will also call the parish office if, during the admitting process, you answer the question, "Do you have a religious preference?" with a "Yes, Catholic, SJTW." Rationale for New Registration Process
Vatican II has brought about a shift of attitude in the Roman Catholic Church: the new thinking requires a different approach to the development of the whole person. In today's society many people are well-educated adults who might accept responsibility for shaping our parish communities and making decisions regarding parish life. These help us live our mission statement.
Since the early seventies, however, our society has become somewhat individualistic, self-centered, and materialistic.
As a result of this, we find that many people are searching for a healthy spirituality. Hopefully, they can find some of this in our church. Therefore, we are inviting newly-registering persons into a process whereby they can meet a few times in order to recognize each other and to discover how we function as a faith community here at St. Joseph the Worker.
Our mission statement: "Our faith family is striving to be a welcoming, spiritually vibrant community, celebrating the challenge to live the mission of Jesus Christ".
Theology for New Registrations
The Spirit of God, through Baptism, calls our parish to be a community who cares for each other. Every time a new person is baptized, we welcome our new member by applauding AND we promise to support your family by helping you develop your faith life. Of course, we do this by celebrating Mass together every weekend, by providing you with a chance to join a Small Faith Community, and many other opportunities for you; in turn, we ask you to participate in assisting our faith community to develop healthy spiritualities. Our spiritual selves hunger for more nourishment than Mass once a week. We are here to aid you in developing a practical every-day spirituality that works for you.

Questions to Ask a Prospective Spiritual Director
To find a spiritual director suited to your needs, it is recommended that you interview at least two prospective spiritual directors, using questions such as these:
1. What enrichment, spiritual formation, and theological education do you have in spiritual direction?
2. What is your personal experience tending your own prayer, meditation and contemplative life?
3. What is your experience as a spiritual director? How many years? In what environments? What are you most interested in spiritually?
4. How do you continue your education and supervision for your spiritual direction ministry?
- Most trained directors abide by ethical guidelines published by Spiritual Directors International.
- These guidelines can be found at www.sdiworld.org/what_is_spiritual_direction2.html
- Take time to discuss with a prospective director the roles and responsibilities in a spiritual direction relationship.
