Garden Ministry

Our Mission Statement We, the members of St. Joseph the Worker garden ministry, dedicate our time and talent to enhancing our communities’ awareness of God’s gift of nature through beautifying the landscape of our church.

The Garden Ministry at SJTW exists to serve God and his people in making His presence known and felt in the beauty of nature and His works….in particular through the Grounds of our Parish community.

Welcome
Our garden ministry is dynamic, friendly, and fun! It’s a great way to meet fellow parishioners, plus make a contribution that you can see every time you visit! We are blessed with many experts so many of our events are learning opportunities for those of us with less expertise!

News from Anna...
Our ninth season continues with another excellent turn out for our Annual planting!! 19 of us planted the annual beds, weeded, sheared the arborvitae, planted a new perennial garden, filled in the day lilies in the parking lot, and started a retaining wall around the sign. All of this in a beautiful Saturday morning with only a few drops of rain at the very end! Just wait till things really get growing, it is going to be beautiful!

If you couldn't make it but still want to help there is plenty to do. To add your name to the watering schedule, call or email Jenny Toms at, 420-2813, bjtoms@excite.com. To help with Summer Stretch (on Tuesdays, 8:30 to 11:30, in mid June and July) or to help finish the retaining wall and clean up the sign landscape, call or email Anna Mau, 557-1335 (maufamily@aol.com). Thank you all for being members of the Garden Ministry!!

SJTW 2006 - Watering Schedule

Following is the watering schedule for the 2006 growing season. As you can see, many generous folks have already signed up to care for our flower beds, but we still need more volunteers. Now that we have planted our annuals and a new perennial bed, we would like to keep them alive and looking their best!! Your help would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Jenny Toms (420-2813, bjtoms@excite.com) to add your name to this list. (Ideally 2 volunteers per week are needed)

Watering Instructions for Volunteers (Sunday - Saturday):
· Contact other minister to coordinate days or split up work
· Water the annual beds by the doors of the “old” gathering space. There is a water spigot to the right of those doors with hoses usually lying on the ground beside it.
· Water the flowerbed to the left of the main door. There is another water spigot in the ground near the annual bed on the left closest to the parking lot.
· Check the annual beds (4) around the new entrance to see if they need water. They should be hit by the sprinkler system, but check to see if they need more water
· If there is a dry spell, check the soil around the perennials to see if they need water as well
·Weed and dead-head in the flowerbeds if you have time

Calendar of Events
Our Garden Ministry is realizing its 9th season! In order for the ministry to run smoothly, every event needs one or more Co Chairs. This involves helping with the planning, securing supplies and helping direct the event itself. Please send an email to Anna Mau and / or call Anna at 763-557-1335 if you can help!
